Invest in Canada is looking for an Investor Services Advisor to strengthen investment promotion and attraction into Canada from the broader Indo-Pacific region. Reporting to the Market Director, the Investor Services Advisor manages client accounts and provides investment facilitation services to various types of investments. The Advisor manages strong working relationships with Government stakeholders and internal colleagues to advance investment decisions and put forward Canada as a leading destination. The Advisor serves as an investor’s primary point of contact for navigating the investment process and acts in a project management capacity during the location selection process. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Establishes and maintains strong relationships with company representatives in the Indo-Pacific region interested in investing in the Canadian market.
  • Manages a wide range of complex client accounts which entails client meetings, proposals, internal client service discussions, and coordination with regional representatives.
  • Maintains positive working relationships with the Investment Officers in the Trade Commissioner Service, key government contacts and market stakeholders to facilitate investment opportunities in Canada.
  • Conducts market research for Canada and the Indo-Pacific region, identifying investment trends, target sectors and creating outreach plans.
  • Develops and implements the Indo-Pacific market plan including events, meetings, and ongoing engagement in the market throughout the year. 
  • Proactively identifies and pursues new investment opportunities by generating qualified leads from target sectors and markets.
  • Takes initiative by identifying opportunities, developing outreach plans, facilitating the network connections within the FDI ecosystem, overcoming obstacles, and driving investment opportunities forward.
  • As a trusted advisor, provides tailored services to foreign direct investors including presenting Canada’s value proposition, providing business advisory services, and facilitating introductions and meetings with relevant stakeholders.
  • Participates in the development of investment leads and opportunities from initial inquiry to final investment decision, including investment pitches, site visit organization, and government coordination.
  • Coordinates with internal government teams including participating in activities such as meetings, and cross functional deal teams and contributing briefing materials for Invest in Canada’s leadership team as required.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date activities in the CRM system and ensures all information within the CRM is consistently current and ready to be reported throughout the year. 

 

Requirements

  • Professional proficiency in oral and written English. 
  • Undergraduate degree in Public Administration, Commerce, Finance, Economics, International Business or in a related field. 
  • Graduate degree is considered an asset (MBA, Master of Economics, or in a related field). 
  • 5-7 years of related experience (government – economic development, programs/policy, business development, sales and/or investment promotion). 
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with clients in both the private and public sectors. 
  • Ability to develop new ways to engage companies and to advance their investment opportunities.
  • Excellent ability to collaborate and communication cross-functionally.  
  • Strong project management and organizational skills. 
  • Knowledge of the Indo-Pacific market and their various business cultures, and the ability to promote Canada’s value proposition in these markets.
  • Understanding of government levels, departments, programs, and processes. 
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, international  environment and to adapt quickly to changing priorities. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to travel when required. 
  • Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate time difference with Asia.
