Invest in Canada is looking for a temporary Regional Advisor, Atlantic to support and promote the province of Atlantic Canada to further generate and secure transformational investments by global companies. Reporting to the Director, National Engagement, the Regional Advisor, Atlantic acts as a representative of the region, and has an in-depth understanding of Atlantic Canada’s key assets, sectors and investment opportunities. The Regional Advisor will develop and manage strong working relationships with a network of provincial and municipal partners to communicate and inform on key developments, and to assist with the overall value proposition for the region.
Duties and Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities for this role may include but are not limited to the following:
- Develop expertise of the key sectors and assets within the region and draw parallels between these identified sectors and Invest in Canada’s sectors of focus.
- Strong knowledge of the key contacts within the local economic ecosystem.
- Identify, develop and manage strong working relationships with a network of key partners in the region, including provincial and municipal partners.
- Develop, facilitate and promote consistent and current information regarding intelligence and the region’s main value proposition including through virtual webinars and promotional material.
- Inform provincial and municipal partners of federal policies and programs and connect parties to facilitate collaboration between levels of government.
- Support the Investor Services team with program development and site visit preparation to showcase the region’s value proposition.
- Liaise with internal teams and Trade Commissioner Services Officers to offer support for a wide range of tasks including client meetings, reinvestment activities, documentation and proposals.
- Educate and update internal colleagues and Trade Commissioner Services Officers regarding the value proposition and opportunities in the region.
Participate and work with Invest in Canada’s Market Advisors in the development of investment pitches, sector strategies and outgoing communications.
Liaise with internal teams including Invest in Canada’s leadership team to share information and collaborate on ongoing priorities and projects.
Requirements:
- Undergraduate degree in Public Administration, Commerce, Finance, Economics, International Business or in a related field.
- Graduate degree is considered an asset (MBA, Master of Economics, or in a related field).
- 5-7 years of related experience (government – economic development, programs/policy, business development, sales and/or investment promotion)
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with senior executives in both the private and public sectors.
- Excellent ability to collaborate and communicate cross-functionally.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Strong knowledge of region and the ability to promote Canada’s value proposition.
- Knowledge of federal government departments, programs, and processes. Further understanding and knowledge of provincial and municipal government programs and processes considered an asset.
- Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, global environment and to adapt quickly to changing priorities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a particular strength in dealing with a wide variety of individuals at various levels within and outside of the organization.
- Ability to travel within Atlantic Canada (1-2 times per month) as well as to Ottawa (3-4 times per year).
