Foreign talent welcome

Canada's Global Skills Strategy helps you bring in highly skilled foreign talent from abroad.

Global Skills Strategy

The Global Skills Strategy features faster application processing times, work permit exemptions and enhanced customer service. Since the programme’s inception in 2017, over 64,000 work permit applications have been received, with a 94% approval rate. Expanding your business has never been easier.

Two-week Processing

Eligible foreign workers with employer-approved applications can move swiftly through the immigration system and receive work permits within as little as two weeks. There are three categories of eligibility for two-week processing, including a category for spouses and dependents.

Our future with tech

Our economy is leaning more on students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The workforce of Tomorrow

By welcoming international talent, Canada possesses and shares the expertise to shape and empower a skilled and diverse digital workforce. Canada is making ongoing investments in innovation, and newly arrived entrepreneurs and tech industry workers are helping make this innovation happen. This is key in the ever-growing digital business world.

Immigration spurs innovation

Immigrants hold about half of all STEM degrees in Canada. Four Canadian cities – Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal and Ottawa – had a combined brain gain of more than 87,356 tech workers in the 2015 - 2020 period. This tech talent gain is more than twice the total gains by San Francisco and Seattle combined. By welcoming foreign talent, Canada continues to push the innovative spirit forward.

IT'S TIME TO MAKE CANADA YOUR SECOND HOME.

Investing in Canada is for us the best equation to drive our North American business forward. It’s the resource availability, it’s the clean energy and … it’s the availability of critical talent.

Bring in talent quickly

Canada has an abundance of skilled workers, but businesses are always welcome to bring in highly skilled talent from abroad.

The Best and Brightest

Canada attracts the best and brightest because of its diversity and inclusivity. International students choose Canada for three main reasons: the quality of the Canadian education system, Canada's reputation as a tolerant and non-discriminatory society, and Canada's reputation as a safe country. Several government programmes welcome international talent to Canada.

Efficient entry

Canada will invest more than $380 million over five years to facilitate the timely and efficient entry of workers and students. That includes programmes such as the Global Talent Stream, which involves a dedicated referral partner helping innovative firms that need unique and specialised foreign nationals to scale up and grow. Expand your business where the talent pool keeps on growing.

Tools for expansion

The Government of Canada works with you to help bring in the workforce you need to successfully expand your business.

No time wasted

Thanks to Canada's Global Skills Strategy, your company could have access to global talent in as little as two weeks.

Brain gain

Canada prides itself on welcoming international talent. More than one in four workers in Canada are immigrants and many work in sectors that focus on innovation.

Superior business climate

Canada continues to be the best country in the G20 for doing business, and it's easy to see why. Are you ready to make Canada your second home?
